What does the clean energy transition look like on the ground? For Benji Perry, Senior Driller at Diverso Energy, it means steadier work, safer sites, and a better quality of life. In this Toronto Star feature, Climate Change Reporter Marco Chown Oved profiles Benji’s journey from 15 years in the oilpatch to geothermal drilling in the GTA.

Gone are the grueling 12-hour shifts in a remote camp with 300 men. “You actually have a life,” Benji says. “I can go to a movie or the mall. I can even go out for wings and a beer.” Using the same skills, he’s now drilling for very different outcomes: cutting emissions, supporting housing delivery, and building a greener economy.
